About us

A Place of Peace, A Practice of Beauty

Forsyth is a salon rooted in intention — a calm, considered space where artistry meets well-being. Nestled on Forsyth Street in downtown Manhattan, our name is both a nod to the neighborhood and a deeper philosophy: in Gaelic, Forsyth means “a place of peace.”

We believe hairdressing is more than a service — it’s a craft, a ritual, and a relationship. Our team of seasoned stylists and colorists are united by a shared commitment to clean technique, mindful communication, and elevated results. Whether you’re here for a subtle refresh or a bold transformation, we approach your hair with the same reverence we bring to our space. Every detail at Forsyth is curated with care — from the mid-century touches to the biophilic design, from our sustainable product partners to the herbal teas we serve. We prioritize comfort without compromise, design without excess, and beauty without ego.

Come in, slow down, and let yourself be taken care of.

Inspired to pursue color seeing the way people psychologically respond,  depending on the color of hair someone had, thinking how something can radically change the way a person feels & their place in the world & people's response to that, it was then I decided to drop everything, go to school & find the most educated route, investing years into that, I knew I'd met my tribe..

Over 20 years later, I still love what I do and love my clients, fostering a space for connection for healing, inspiration, & most importantly, laughter. Something so trivial as hair can make someone arm themselves with the good-feels to face the world-feels.

I have a particular specialty in low maintenance, natural lived in looks (balayage), & red hair-whether enhancing what you have or a total transformation to a ginger, but I never met a gray hair I couldn't tame.

A Proud Waste Warrior

  • I have never had a haircut grow out this well—seriously. It’s been weeks, and it still looks great. Joseph listened to what I wanted, offered thoughtful suggestions, and explained what would work for my hair type. My hair was thinning, but after following his recommended treatments, it’s growing and thickening. The vibe is so calm, too. It feels like a peaceful reset in the middle of Manhattan. I used to dread salon visits, but now I look forward to them.

  • After years of coloring and heat styling, my hair was fried. Joseph and Kentaroh recommended a conditioning treatment and a soft gloss, and wow. My hair feels alive again. It’s shiny and smooth, and the color looks like my own but better. Everyone was warm and professional, and I appreciated that they took time to understand what my hair had been through. I walked out feeling confident for the first time in a long time.

  • I came in with gray roots I couldn’t stand and walked out with a dimensional, blended color that looks completely natural. No harsh lines, no brassiness. The consultation made me feel heard, and the space is so clean and calming. I have sensitive skin and usually react to hair dye, but the products they used didn’t irritate my scalp at all, which was a first. I’m definitely coming back when it’s time for a root touch-up.

  • My scalp had been super dry and itchy for months, and nothing I tried worked. A friend told me about Forsyth’s scalp treatments, and I’m so glad I gave them a try. They used this herbal treatment that felt soothing right away, and my stylist explained how to keep things balanced between visits. My hair feels less oily at the roots now, and the flakes are gone. I didn’t know my scalp could feel this normal!

  • I don’t usually write reviews, but they deserve it. I went in before a big event and booked a blowout from Kentaroh Sumida. The results were smooth, bouncy, and held for days. Plus, the stylist gave me tips to extend the style at home, which worked. What stood out was how peaceful the space was; there was no loud music or chaos, just service and care with good products. It’s high-end without being pretentious, and I felt completely taken care of.

  • I have visited a lot of salons in NYC, but none compare to Forsyth. My entire experience was good, from the way the team greeted me to the relaxed, mid-century vibe of the space. My haircut was exactly what I asked for, but even better. It framed my face perfectly and still looks amazing after weeks. I also love that they use clean products. I’m very picky about ingredients. This place is perfect for getting great hair without the usual salon stress.
